Cornwall Lawn Care

Before ordering your Turf:

Ensure you have prepared your ground to the best of your ability. Once the turf is laid, it is far harder to fix any undulations, bumps or dips. You must make sure the ground is firm and even. If you have paths or patios, the soil must be to the top of the slabs so you can easily mow the lawn edges.

When your Turf arrives:

Lay your turf as soon as possible. All the turf is freshly cut to order but it should be laid the day it is delivered. If it is especialy hot when your turf arrives, you could wait untill later in the day so you get a chance to water your turf in before it gets scorched by any midday sun.

Lay the turf in straight row. stand on planks to avoid making dips in your prepared ground. Do not try to stretch the turf or it may contract and leave gaps. Make any cuts with a sharp knife.

Once the turf is laid, water early in the morning and early evening. How much watering will depend on the weather and the size of lawn. Please ask for further advice when you order. You will not need to water if you are laying in the winter.

Mowing:

Some gardens are just to small for anything but an electric mower however, a petrol rotary mower would be best. Whatever your mower, make sure it collects all of the grass and the blade is sharpened each year. We would advise against a mulching mower, especialy in Cornwall's heavier soils as it may contribute to moss.

In the growing season, mow the lawn after 2 weeks of laying (weather permitting). Try to mow once a week from Spring to Autumn. Whatever you do, don't let the grass grow to long or it will be damaged when it's next mowed and the taller grasses may block light to the fescue resulting in a loss of density.

Lawn Treatments:

It is essential to feed your lawn at least twice a year. We recommend Scotts, Headland or Evergreen products. Try to avoid using weed & feed combination products. Instead, use a lawn fertilizer and only weed treat the lawn when it's required and when the lawn is healthy.

Any moss that may develop can be treated in the Spring or Autumn with lawn sand.

Apply all of the products evenly and within the manufacturers guidelines .
